Hi,
We have created a database of size 75GB. We are planning to implement RMAN (Weekly) Hot backup for this database.
I have some questions that has to be get cleared before implementing RMAN backup.
a, Is I has to create another small new database for RMAN catalog as source to connect the target database?
b, How much should be the appropriate size of this small database to hold the backup (compressed backup)?
Database : Oracle 10gR2
OS : Sun Solaris 5.8
Regards,
Prashanth

Upto you.
If you want to use recovery catalog, a seperate small database is required. Else, you can just use the controlfile (no catalog mode).

Time to read documentation.
This small database does NOT HOLD BACKUP DATA compressed/or whatever.
It will just store the information on backupsets (metadata) and is usually very small (just stores the information on backupsets, its location etc).
Please read RMAN documentation. Everything is already clearly explained over there.
