we have oracle 8 server and client system. Today suddenly in server sqlplus not run and error comes "Dr watson help: Access violation, An application error occured and application log is being generated" and one code display like 000xxx55 " and sqlplus exit BUT strange, in client machines sqlplus is working fine and we are able to connect to server database, but from server we cannot run sqlplus not even export import utility run in server but same is working fine in clients machine.
We are using windows NT service pack 6 in our server having 4 GB RAM and IBM dual processer system

So, what's changed on the Server?
(and the answer isn't "Nothing", or it would still be working)

Have a look in the registry on the server, and check that your Oracle_Home enries are all valid.

And if you go back to the backup of your TNSNAMES.ORA does the problem go away?.

Look:
Now lots of things don't work

At some point in the past (you need to work out exactly when the last time these things DEFINITELY worked was) these things worked.

Either:
1) There are pixies living in your hard drives making things stop working
2) Somthing you changed recently has messed it all up.

Did you check the registry entries for the Oracle_Homes?
