Hi

We have 2 environments

Envt 1: Oracle 8.1.7 /Win NT
Database Size = 80GB

Envt 2: Oracle 10.1.0.3 / Windows 2003

We have to perform a database migration from 1 to 2.

Iam aware of creating a similar database and add the same set of tablespaces on 2.

Anyone please suggest me the ideal way of migrating the Database data from 1 to 2.

Also, Iam wondering if doing a full export and import of this 80GB data and import on Envt 2 would be okie.

Please let me know if there is any other better approach for this.
Any input or suggestions (things that i need make sure while migrating data)from you all is appreciated.

Thanks
Sj

Better based upon which metric; downtime, simplicity, reliability?
For example if you have 7x24 OLTP with zero downtime the migration will likely be different than where the DB can be down the whole weekend.

Thanks for the reply
I have one more question,

Now on 8.1.7, we have a set of RBS created under RBS tablespaces.

And on 10g, i noticed the UNDOTBS tablespace.

Now, when we generally create the required tablespaces on 10g, do we also have to created the RBS tablespace on 10g...

Please clarify on this

Thanks

no , you don't have to create RBS, use auto undo management, if you can afford down time you can go for exp/imp

Thanks
